I’m thrilled to share today’s vlog on how to best transition off of the birth control pill.
This is a question we get asked often, and one that I discuss in depth in WomanCode.
Here’s your WomanCoder’s inside scoop on getting off the pill.
Now, we want to hear from you!
First: Have you recently come off the Pill? Did you follow your Flo first?
Second: It’s easier to #quitthepill with support – let’s share our experiences.
Third: You know every one you know is hormonal – spread a little good ovary karma and share this article on social by clicking the buttons below

Hi,
I was following most of the principals for about 2 months before going off the pill (this video wasn’t up at the time). I was already on a Mediterranean diet before so I didn’t feel like I had to change much. I made sure I was getting the right nutrients at the right times and switched to mostly organic foods and products.
I was using the pill for more than 10 years to deal with heavy menstrual cycles, which basically took me out for 3 days of the 6 days they lasted. They were like the first example on the Dr. Oz show. Reading the book I realized I was obviously suffering from excess estrogen, including weight that won’t come off. I have tried going off the pill in the past and it was so horrible I went back on after 3 months.
Since going off the pill I had 3 cycles of only 3-4 days without any clotting. The menstrual cycle is like nothing I ever had on or off the pill. It completely convinced me this is working great. I recently made time for the cleanse and I’m getting better and better at incorporating the code into my life. I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone considering to go off the pill to adopt the womancode as best you can in preparation – it’s really worth it!
Thank you Alisa for this book!!
Soooo lovely to hear your success Noa! It makes me smile ear to ear. This information is so life changing.

I’m actually going off the pill at the end of the year and specifically bought WomanCode just for this purpose. I also have PCOS and am starting to follow the food and lifestyle guidelines in the hopes of countering the side effects of going off the pill. Thank you so much for writing this book!!
So glad you picked up the book Jess! We appreciate your support!
It sounds like you’d really love the Flo Living Program as well….I think it may be an excellent compliment to the book. If you’re interested in a free info session to learn more about it, please email us at info@floliving.com

I was on the pill for 20 years. Came off it a year ago. I was already eating clean, but I had acupuncture every 2 weeks for a few months. Really made a difference and brought me into balance and regulated my menstrual cycle quickly.
Thanks so much for sharing your success Cat! So glad to hear it!!

I want to go off the pill but last time I did I developed acne and ovarian cysts (which I discovered painfully when one ruptured). I want to go off the pill again but I’m scared this will happen again. I have started living Flo-like and feel great but how do I know when my body is ready? And why do I need to work with an MD? (when I went to my MD about breast pain he shrugged it off as “probably hormonal”)

Hi! Thanks for the video. I’ve been thinking to get off the pill for a little while now, in hopes to have a baby in the near future. I have off and on hormonal breakouts on my chin that drive me crazzzzzy. (I never had this problem before going on bc, and have been on it for 8 years, I’m 30 now…I thought acne was suppose to taper off as we get older…sheesh!!!) So when I researched about gettting off the pill, i read all these horror stories about terrible acne outbreaks, among many other awful symptoms. I am going to see a naturopath today to help me out with this a bit, I am also going to follow your advice of getting my body ready for the transition off bc by eating a proper diet for 6 months prior. I’m also gonna buy your book…THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you for the video. I have been eating pretty much all the right foods & have just decided to stop my pills Loestren 28 this past week. Just curious what other precautions I should’ve taken prior? Too late now; my gyne stated to get off the pill I should just stop taking them.

I’ve been thinking about going off the pill because the life cycle syncing with my flo sounds amazing. But I haven’t transitioned off the pill yet for fear of getting pregnant. Having a baby sounds far worse than any symptoms I might have. (Not because I don’t like kids but because I’m not financially ready nor have a committed relationship.
I just bought the WomanCode (haven’t finished it yet), but was wondering if I could do all the step with staying on the pill or the implant I have?
I have no period and when I do its one or two days, clots. I have a sex drive. I can lose weight but I still have love handles.
I would love to have my hormones balanced but fear of pregnancy is far worse than anything I’ve experienced on the pill for the past 12 years.
Hi Meg,
You can absolutely start do the protocol while on the pill!

Hello! I have been on the pill for 8/9 years, I want go off the pill for a variety of reasons. The thing is, I didn’t start the pill to deal with any issues – I’ve always had a normal period, I didn’t have acne, etc. I’ve only ever used it to not get pregnant. Do you think I will have issues going off of it?
Hi Zoe,
It’s not possible to say! It really depends on your overall health. But you know where to find Flo if you need us!
Alisa
Hey! I´m 23 and I was on the pill by 20 months and I´m in the third month without it. After come off I had two 29 days cycles, and noticed things that I assume were ovulation symptoms. You know “everything fine”. But now I´m in the third cycle, 33 days and counting… I don´t know if it´s normal. I´m so afraid to be pregnant or to have irreversible reproductive issues 🙁 I taked the pill just as an contraconceptive, before it I had always had regular and easy cycles, normal cervical mucus, no pain… So I want to go back to those days. Wich plan will work for me?
Hi Mariana,
The pill can interfere with normal hormone production and things can get wonky once you come off. If you understand the symptoms and how to rebalance, these issues are reversible. The best plan for you would be the Monthly Flo program!

Hi Alisa,
I am about to embark on my journey of going off the pill after being on it since I was 16 years old (I’m now 32). I stumbled upon your book the Woman Code when I was on another blog (The Glowing Fridge) trying to find a recipe for a green smoothie. I am SO glad I found you and the book. Recently, I’ve found myself more depressed, anxious, and with low libido than ever. I also suffer from IBS, which was diagnosed 2 years ago. I never realised all these issues could be caused by a hormonal imbalance. I tried going off the pill 3 years ago but didn’t get my period for 5 months and suffered from terrible acne. So I gave up and went right back on it not knowing how to deal with the side effects I was facing. I generally eat a pescatarian diet and understand the importance of a healthy diet. I also exercise regularly but found I never lost any weight or noticed any results. I’m hoping that by following the FLO protocol, my journey off the pill will be a much smoother one. My goal is to have a baby within the next 2 years. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the world. I wish I had found you years ago!!
Thank you for sharing Jennifer! So glad you found Flo!
Alisa
I didn’t know how beneficial the WomanCode way was before going off the pill. I was on various types of the pill for 8 years and I got off of it in August. September was fine and then the end of October I started developing acne, my periods were somewhat irregular, and my libido is better but no where near what it should be for a 28-year-old. I’ve been working on cycle-sycing with food for the last few weeks and hoping that the 4-day cleanse will help (starting that on Monday). I saw that maca could also be helpful? I’m taking b-12, vitamin c, a multivitamin/probiotic, zinc, and trying to avoid alcohol. Any other advice would be amazing – It’s been a bit of a struggle.
Hello,
I came off the pill in June, had a period in July and then nothing since. I read up about vitex about 2 weeks ago and my delivery came Monday.
I started taking it and started running and lost 5lbs and I have just come on my period after 6 months. I feel so much relief. Would I continue to taking these tablets whilst I’m on my period?
Many thanks xx
Hello,
I’m getting off the pill right now, and it’s been about one month (I started with the new year) and I was taking supplements to help support this transition, but other than that my doctors didn’t offer me much more. I am starting cycle syncing, but I’m not really sure where to start? I don’t know what phase I’m in because I may not menstruate this month. How do I know where/when to start?
xx
Carly
Hi Carly,
Start from when you got off the pill – if you have a placebo week, that would be your period week. Count from there. If you are also dealing with irregular cycles or other symptoms, I would check on the WomanCode book by Alisa Vitti, or the Monthly Flo Program which was made to support healing hormone imbalances from the source
