Find out the Flo-science reason you are struggling with low libido and your personal Flo-Fix
Here at Flo Living we believe that food is the best medicine, but I also know that supplements, when taken in addition to hormone-friendly meals, can have super-powers, like the ability to boost your sex drive.
Often when we start to look outside of mainstream medicine for alternative protocols to heal our health issues we replace one pill-taking protocol with another. The prescription drugs are replaced with a long list of supplements. Supplements alone, without any other lifestyle changes, will have some impact, but it will be nowhere near what they can achieve when working in a body supported with a healthy way of life.
A pill for every ill
Science is always on the search for the magic bullet for our sexual health problems – that female Viagra. Most women, however, experience poor sexual desire alongside other issues like PMS and fatigue. The solution requires a holistic approach. I want women to start by feeling good every day, in everything they do, as it’s then that you will find you have the ability to feel great about sex.
Here I want to explain the reasons why you might have low libido and the best supplement for each particular problem. There is a pill here for every ill, but remember to truly activate the benefits you need to put living in your Flo first and get your hormonal ecosystem straightened out with food.
The 4 best supplements to boost your sexual health
Rev your Energy Fast with Rhodiola
How you feel: You have symptoms of adrenal fatigue with moodiness, PMS and low-level depression.
How it works: Rhodiola works in supporting our adrenal glands by preventing the breakdown of too much dopamine and serotonin during stressful times, leaving enough for us to remain buoyant and energized. What’s extra fun about Rhodiola is that it works fast – in 30 minutes – to change your energy levels and focus – so pop one before you think you want to get frisky.
Look and Feel your Sexiest Self with Zinc
How you feel: You are estrogen dominant with low testosterone, which will show itself in period problems and weight gain.
How it works: Zinc helps to boost your testosterone production and prevents testosterone being turned into estrogen by blocking the enzyme responsible.
Have Bigger Orgasms with Evening Primrose Oil
How you feel: You may feel sexual desire, but the sex itself doesn’t feel as good as it used to and you’re not getting those really big Os like before.
How it works: Evening primrose oil will balance out your progesterone and estrogen levels, which in turn will increase dopamine, which will in turn help you produce more nitric oxide. This is absolutely essential for the dilation of blood vessels and tumescence that leads to bigger and better orgasms.
Get back in the mood with Magnesium
How you feel: Symptoms of magnesium deficiency include muscle cramping, facial ticks, migraines, poor sleep, fatigue and PMS. You can ask your doctor for a test for your magnesium levels.
How it works: Magnesium makes it harder for your testosterone to bind onto proteins and allows for more of it to remain “free” in your bloodstream – which is exactly how you want it to be for a higher sex drive. Higher levels of free testosterone makes for more desire. Magnesium also combats anxiety and prevents depressive feelings, helping you enjoy yourself more.
If your magnesium levels show to be very low, take 360g a day in the form of a supplement, but if your levels are average, keep them up with a daily serving of dark chocolate and greens.
Share the love
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Literally! Men benefit just as much from all of these supplements as women do, especially magnesium and evening primrose oil. In fact they can also help with male-centric issues like premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction.
When I first started dating my husband he had a very different diet than mine. Over time he adopted my way of eating and he too has seen and felt the benefits in his digestion, mood, and energy. We both have endocrine systems that need similar kinds of support, even if the end goal of my protocol is all about restoring your feminine hormonal FLO. He now knows how to support his own optimized sex drive. Start feeding your self and your man this sex supportive diet now and thank me later 😉
I recommend that if you want to have a great sex life with your partner you eat the same nutritious meals and make food part of your extended foreplay. There’s nothing sexier than truly caring for the one you love every day.
Bonus: What to Remove
All this talk of supplements brings me to the opposite – what you need to remove from your diet right away.
- For Women: Canola Oil! Because it’s in everything, it raises your levels of Omega 6 fatty acids which disregulates your uptake of Omega 3 fatty acids. Studies have shown that boosting Omega 3’s increases sexual desire and response in women in as little at 6 weeks. So, stick to clean fats: olive oil and coconut oil and you’ll feel sexier pronto!
- For Men: Soy is terrible for the male sex drive as the phytoestrogens build up to unnatural levels much too quickly. In fact, an ex boyfriend and I experimented with this when he decided to become vegan. He ate and drank soy products for a month and by the end of that time he had zero libido. Within two weeks of stopping all soy, he was back to normal.

What brands of supplements do you recommend for the one’s you have listed? It’s hard to find quality in the supplement world. Thank you!
In one of her YouTube videos she said Magnesium Ionic form from Calms?, or Peter Gilham? I think.
do you know about oatstraw
http://nourishingherbalinfusions.com/Oatstraw.html
As far as these supplements are concerned, do you have any specifics that you recommend? The supplement world is tricky to navigate. Also, what type of magnesium is best? There are several to my knowledge.
I just started taking Barleans evening primrose that I bought on amazon and feel like I received improvements to my health within days. I know from working at a natural food co-op for years that Barleans is a respected company. Good luck!
Can you tell me what improvements you experienced.
Do not overlook red ginseng and maca “unprocessed” powder caps a natural way
to improve health/sexuality. Great results….used for centuries.
It doesn’t surprise me that your BF had problems, 98% of the soy produced in the USA is GMO and research proves it is linked to infertility and rat lab tests show enlarged testicles and all sorts of male and female infertility. Same goes to Canola oil, all GMO.
I have a very high libido, but my BF is lagging behind, we eat the same stuff….I wonder if there is anything else I can sneak in his plate that I don’t have to take since my sexual drive is already pretty high.
What doses of the above recommended supplements should I take to increase my libido and is it safe to take all of them on a daily basis?
Dumb question… you suggested 4 different supplements to try. Are you saying we can take all 4 supplements, or just choose one?
Thanks,
Julie
I just purchased the Flo Living Supplement Guide and I was surprised to see that Evening Primrose Oil was not mentioned. I was wondering what Alisa’s recommendation was for the brand and dosage. Or is she no longer recommending Evening Primrose Oil? Thanks so much!
I am a middle aged guy who had very low libido and can vouch for magnesium being instrumental in helping me recover.
The actual cause of my low libido according to a naturopath was a severe Candida overgrowth, I ad infected toe nails, jock itch, and tinea on my scalp and hands. Plus I had occasional ring worm. The whole shebang was affecting my urinary tract and pretty much everything else, it was gross!!
Through trial and error, I was able to completely kill my Candida overgrowth in 3 weeks days doing the following:
• get up early and take probiotics and Candex 1 hour before breakfast (must be taken on empty stomach when stomach acid is low)
• 3 x glasses of water a day before each meal with the following in each glass:
– teaspoon of Swedish Bitters
– teaspoon of Pau D’arco
– 5 drops grapefruit seed
– 5 drops oregano oil.
– 15 drops black walnut hull extract
Plus I added herbal liquid magnesium supplement to my diet (250mg/day).
The result: My hair is growing back where there were bald patches, my toenails are starting to grow back, no more red spots on my forehead, scalp and hands. No more brain fog, no more pressure on my prostate nor any urinary issues. PLUS my libido is back.
Hi Steve,
I am so thrilled to hear that you had success healing yourself naturally! Thank you for sharing this inspiring story.
Alisa
Thank you.
That is great information. Which probiotics did you use?
Hi Alisa 🙂 How you? You know what I’ve been drop here through google because I’m still searching for a healthier way specially for boosting or increasing my sex drive. I’ve been using hgh supplements from http://buy-hgh.today yeah it works on me but I’m afraid, what will be the side effects. I’m 43 years old and still searching for the best solution in my problem(sex stamina) maybe you can help me,
what i should do.
Hi Jeremie,
Supplements can be helpful, however, it is always important to look at diet and lifestyle. And depending on the ingredients, it may not be advisable to remain on supplements for extended periods of time, as there can be side-effects. So, please consult your doctor!
Alisa
I use magnesium and zinc. I don’t find any difference with zinc but about 10 minutes after I pop a magnesium I’m all ready to go! But diet comes first! I went vegan about 10 weeks ago (and I’ll never look back) but I also quit my hormonal birth control about 3 weeks ago so my sex drive is at a big fat ZERO. But like I said, when I take a magnesium it still manages to come back. Mine you, I have a boyfriend who I’ve been with for 4 and a half years and I have so much love for him! But I wanna feel sexy everyday! I am losing weight so that will help and I’ve heard amazing things about Pine Pollen (tinture for men and powder for women) check it out! 🙂
Hi there , I take magnesium every day but I still find that I’m not able to feel ” turned on” massively! Arrrgh! Anything you guys recommend? I love my other half with all my soul and i don’t want our love life to not be what it should be because I’m dodging it! Help help help! I weighed myself I’m 74kgs! Blimey! I do don’t look like I am but I am!! What’s good for helping my hormones with weight loss too??! X
make me so excited to try these supplements.
thank you
My husband and I are very active in all aspects of our relationship, this included. However I found this blog because I had started taking magnesium as a supplement for a special diet that I am on. I noticed that my sex drive dramatically inclined. So I searched the internet and found this blog. So this is tried and true BEFORE this discussion.
Magnesium, you quoted 360g a day if you’re levels are low. Surely you mean 360 mg, right? 360g is more than a third of a kilo. Correct your typo please. Otherwise a good article.
Evening prim oil works great for for libido !!! Way more sensitivity ?
I live i Ghana and I actually have been taking Prime rose oil in capsules for the past four months. During the first month, I noticed a general improvement of my energy level as well as improvement in my sexual enjoyment which was the main reason for my using Primrose oil. One thing that worried me was that the4 first two days my stoach was strange. I woke up very hungry which was new to me and took a while to understand.
Thanks 4 the info. May I know if the information is for both females and males. The other issue is that many people are asking questions which are not answered. Who should answer these questions. I hope if the questions are answered, they help other individuals who could ask the same question. I need answers to help me as well for example the issue of 360g magnesium every day.
It works for males and females but I think they meant 360mg it was most likely a typo
thanks for letting me know..
